Maths (KS3)

This class is for year 8 pupils who want to improve their knowledge of graphs and coordinates. We will explore what linear graphs represent, how to interpret them, and how to plot them. This class uses online tools to keep students working and engaged for the whole session.

Tuesday 11th January at 6:00 PM 60 mins

In the first session of the class we will explore the meaning of the function y=kx, predict then plot y=kx, such as y=3x and link the value of the constant k in y=kx to the concept of direct proportion.

Tuesday 18th January at 6:00 PM 60 mins

In session 2 of the class we will identify the gradients of lines, identify the y-intercepts of lines and explore the form of a straight line as y=mx+c and be able to read gradients and intercepts from this.

Tuesday 25th January at 6:00 PM 60 mins

In this session we will identify visually and algebraically when a line has a negative gradient, refresh knowledge of negative numbers and plot and identify graphs of the form y=-x and y=-kx.

Tuesday 1st February at 6:00 PM 60 mins

In the final session of the class we will identify and plot any graph in the form y=mx+c, problem solve with linear graphs and then identify and plot non-linear graphs.
